Top 10 autumn walks around the UK
Lady bower (c) Rex

by Luke Turner

Spring and autumn are, perhaps, the best times to see the British countryside at its best. These seasons are times of change, of brilliant new colours and wonderful scents as new plants and flowers burst into life – and then die.

Our deciduous woodland looks a perfect red and gold in the low autumn sun, while the shortening days mean that no walk should be too long and strenuous – and no cosy pub too far away.

We look at walks from unspoiled woodland just outside London to the hills of the Lake District, Yorkshire valleys to spectacular Welsh coast, Hadrian’s Wall to a planned Victorian garden, and find the very best places in the UK to stretch your legs and truly enjoy the best of the autumn.
