Best overseas beaches 2009
|
News has just come out that 25% fewer UK beaches are now recommended by The Marine Conservation Society compared to three years ago. So, for those in search of a beautiful beach holiday, Thomson and First Choice have put together their recommendations for destinations overseas instead
A shameless marketing ploy, perhaps – but these beaches certainly do offer clean waters, fine sands and top facilities. We take a look at the top seven to make the grade.
1. Watamu, Kenya
Turtle Bay boasts a stunning stretch of white sand in a protected national park. Admire the underwater life with a spot of snorkelling or a trip on a glass-bottom boat. Do your bit to keep the beach in its pristine condition by taking part in the beach clean-up every Saturday: there's a prize for the person who collects the most seaweed and debris.

2. Orlando, Florida
If you're holidaying in Orlando, make sure you take a drive out to Fort De Soto, named America’s top beach by TripAdvisor last year, thanks to its white sand, clear water and laid-back atmosphere. It’s a top spot for nature-lovers with all kinds of migratory birds and you can also camp right near to the water’s edge.

3. Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt
Sharm’s charm lies in its marine life – it has become a top destination for divers with its colourful corals and rainbow of fish. Naama Bay is a popular resort with a sandy beach. Sign up at one of the many diving schools here or try your hand at wind-surfing. If you've got your party hat on, the resort is also famous for its nightlife.
