Profile: Measuring in at 6ft 2in and weighing 221lbs, Cowler was a big heavyweight for his generation, earning himself the nickname the "Cumberland Giant". Cowler failed to become world champion, but he was talked up by his peers during his fighting years - between 1910 and 1924 - as a serious championship contender. Among the impressive names he took on, and defeated, in the ring were George "Boer" Rodel, Bill Brennan, Gunboat Smith, Al Reich and Joe Jeannette.
