Boxing's greatest knockouts
10. Diego Corrales v Jose Luis Castillo
When: May 7, 2005
Where: Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada
What happened: Diego Corrales’ first confrontation with Jose Luis Castillo will go down as one of the greatest fights ever. The clash for the WBC lightweight title saw Corrales win via TKO in a remarkable tenth round.
Castillo floored his opponent twice before Corrales was deducted a point for spitting out his mouthpiece in an attempt to gain extra recovery time.
It looked to be just a matter of time before Castillo would wrap up the win but Corrales fought back incredibly to land a perfect right hand to trap his opponent on the ropes before the referee intervened to stop the fight.
It may not have been the greatest single punch ever landed, but the fact that Corrales was twice knocked down himself before delivering the final blow – all in the same round - warrants this knockout a place in our top ten.
