Football fans from Santander to Seville are celebrating Spain's triumph at Euro 2008.
Despite being one of the world's biggest football nations and boasting two of the best-supported clubs, Real Madrid and Barcelona, the Spanish national team had not won a major tournament since 1964.
But they dominated the final against Germany in Vienna, winning 1-0 thanks to a goal by Liverpool striker Fernando Torres.
He said: 'It is a dream come true, this was a great victory for the whole team and for the whole of Spain but we still have to be ambitious as we still have the World Cup to come.
'It has been a fantastic season for me, it was fantastic with Liverpool and now a fantastic end of the season for the national team.
'This is good not just for Spain but for football, because the best team won and that is not always the case.'
Germany struggled to create chances and spent most of the game trying to prevent Spain from extending their lead.
Germany coach Joachim Low said: 'I think we have to recognise the high quality of the Spanish players, they were playing very well during the whole tournament and today they were technically excellent and had more chances than we had. So I think they deserved he victory.
'We are disappointed after the match but I think we can be satisfied with the tournament on the whole.'
