In a memorable US Masters, Trevor Immelman brilliantly held his nerve to claim a famous victory over Tiger Woods last night in Augusta.

Immelman, only the second South African to win the Masters after Gary Player, beat the huge pre-tournament favourite Woods by three strokes - less than four months after having a benign tumor, thought to be malignant, removed from his diaphragm.

It was an action-packed few days but British golf fans were left disappointed after the likes of Justin Rose, Paul Casey and Ian Poulter failed to take advantage of positive starts.
