With the January transfer window fast approaching, Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez is keen to strengthen his squad.

Despite spending over £45m in the summer, including a club-record £20.2m to bring Fernando Torres to Anfield, Liverpool still find themselves off the pace in the Premier League.

A 1-0 defeat at home to arch-rivals Manchester United on the weekend means the Reds trail league leaders Arsenal by 10 points while Benitez has endured a rocky relationship with the club’s American co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett.
