Typically, Cavendish had already weighed up a possible man to come in as coach – former England striker Michael Dennis, who hit 27 goals in an international career spanning eight years.
Dennis arrives on Wednesday morning, leaving him just three sessions to turn your currently erratic strikers into clones of himself.
The first goes well and you have to admit that Dennis, a far better striker than you were, has some interesting points to make and useful training exercises.
With Reid suspended and Courtney probably crying in a dark room somewhere, striking options are limited. It's two out of three and, seeing as Wilson Ebouwe has hit a decent spell of form, it's really one out of two; Henri Chevalier or Gordon McBride.
The Frenchman is the more exciting option but McBride's bulk could be more useful alongside Ebouwe. The problem is the Scot hasn't played a full 90 minutes all season.
