Sri Lanka v England: How they rated
England (c) Empics 2007

England can take few positives from a tour in which they were outplayed in every department and which relegated them to fifth in the ICC World Test Rankings.

After an hour's play of the first Test, everything looked rosy thanks to Matthew Hoggard's new-ball blitz. From then on, though, Sri Lanka dominated and only rain prevented the possibility of a 3-0 whitewash.

Serious errors of judgement were made in selection, for which Peter Moores and Michael Vaughan must accept responsibility. But neither man could do much about the worrying ineptitude in the field, the inability of batsmen to post big centuries and the inconsistency of the bowlers.

England have much to do ahead of the tour of New Zealand in February. Perhaps our ratings will at least help with the selection process. Check out what we thought of each England player's performance and then click here to post your views.
