MPs to give second job details

MPs are to give details of second jobs and outside earnings under new rules introduced as part of a bid to 'clean up' politics.

They are now required to reveal how much they earn from other jobs, how many hours they worked for it and who paid them - even if the work does not relate to their political role.

Previously, they only had to name their outside employers and directorships in the Register of Members' Interests, and give an indication of how much they were paid if the work was related to their job as an MP.

More than half of the MPs with outside interests are Conservatives but many have already announced they are giving up their second jobs ahead of the changes.

Tory leader David Cameron published the details of shadow cabinet earnings on Monday and announced all of his top team would end their outside jobs by December to concentrate on preparing for a potential Tory government after the next General Election.
