Sentence for contempt in Rhys trial
|
A boy who refused to give evidence in the Rhys Jones murder trial has been told he must wait to be sentenced for being in contempt.
The boy, a relative of alleged killer Sean Mercer, 18, was called as a witness to the trial last week but gave 'no comment' answers to barristers' questions.
He was warned that he was in contempt of court and could face a prison term.
The judge, Mr Justice Irwin, told the boy, who cannot be identified, that he would be sentenced upon conclusion of another trial in which he is due to be a witness.
Speaking from behind a screen at Liverpool Crown Court, the boy apologised for not giving evidence, saying he was scared of the consequences.
Mercer, of Good Shepherd Close, Croxteth, denies shooting Rhys, 11, dead in Croxteth Park, in August last year.
He is on trial with six others charged with assisting an offender - they all deny the charges.
The trial continues.
