Vincent Vincent and the Villains – ‘Pretty Girl’

Vincent Vincent and the Villains – ‘Pretty Girl’

Mad like a novelty tie, Vincent Vincent and the Villains whip up a skiffle number about being in love with a girl whom he sees in his “local Tesco store”. Despite the fact that it is as zany as a student fancy dress party, ‘Pretty Girl’ has a certain charm. There’s a pleasant touch of legendary jazz Gypsy Django Reinhardt to the guitars and it’s all over within three minutes. The kind of song you like to hear on the radio, without ever taking your interest further.

Kylie – ‘Wow’

Kylie – ‘Wow’

Or alternatively, Kylie – ‘Missing Wow’. It’s ‘Spinning Around’ again: pleasantly bouncy, nothing special and, unlike most of X, at least you can tell that it’s actually her singing and not a mad robot. But who cares? It’s her song done not particularly well. Needs more sparkle, a catchier chorus – and a better singer.
