If your home’s on the market but the offers aren’t rolling in, it might be time for a spot of early spring cleaning. Yet you don’t need to spend thousands of pounds on extensions and furnishings – cheap forms of decoration could add thousands of pounds to the value of your home.

Here are some ideas that won’t break the bank:

Clean up
Having a spotless house from top to bottom could add hundreds of pounds to the value of your home. Scrub your house from top to bottom, not forgetting to shampoo that carpet.

Clear your home of clutter
Try selling your unwanted items on eBay.co.uk, through advertising newspaper Loot or at your local car boot sale.

Kick out the chintz
Borders, flowers, chintzy curtains and anything gaudy is out. If you want to sell, go for clean decor and simple furnishings.

Get better furniture
If you can’t afford to buy something new, you could re-cover your old items, buy second-hand furnishings at auction or even consider hiring stylish furniture until you’ve hooked your buyer.
