Q1. My house was broken into and I cancelled my credit card with my bank for security reasons. We then moved. When I applied for a new one, the replacement card was sent to my previous address, even though I know I changed my address details when I moved.

This new card (at the old address) has now had annual credit card insurance charges applied to it. I wasn’t aware of these charges as obviously I didn’t physically use the cards.

In the meantime the account went into arrears and now my credit history has been ruined for a mere £23! Any ideas how to fight this? I can't even get a small loan at a decent rate.

I doubt very much if your credit history would be ruined simply by the fact that your card was sent to the wrong address and you went £23 over your agreed limit the once. If that were the case, 15 to 20 million current account/cardholders would be in the same boat.

Righting the wrong address

With regard to the card being sent to the wrong address, if part of the security check is to ask for your current address, you’re on fairly secure grounds to make an official complaint and, at the very least, have a refund of all charges connected with the incident.

If you intend to make a complaint to, say, the Financial Ombudsman Service, you’re entitled to ask for copies of all information held about you.

I have to say that if you asked for a new card and it was sent to your old address, you should have realised within a couple of weeks that it hadn't arrived and called your card company to find out why.
