There's heartache for Lexi when she collapses at the factory with severe stomach pains and is rushed to hospital. When the doctors tell Carl his wife has suffered an ectopic pregnancy and that they've lost the baby, he's filled with remorse, telling brother Jim: "I wished for it. I wished the baby away and now it's gone."
As if his own guilt isn't bad enough, Carl's then has to break the devastating news to Lexi when she finally regains consciousness following surgery. The couple's relationship was already on shaky ground, and it looks as if this terrible loss could well be the straw that breaks the camel's back.
Elsewhere, Diane and Katie are fraught with concern when they find a missing Andy on top of some hay bales. Katie manages to gently coax him down but, worryingly, Andy doesn't appear to recognise her. Later the doctor sees Andy and tells Diane she suspects he's clinically depressed and is referring him to specialist.
In other news, fists fly at Paddy's 40th birthday party when Aaron humiliates him by reading out a love poem he prepared for Chas, and Maisie and Nathan start to worry that their behaviour has caused a rift between their parents. If only they knew the truth…
