Sonia's sensational comeback
|
Sing hosanna! Strictly Come Dancing star Natalie Cassidy is set to make a sensational return to EastEnders. The actress, who played trumpet-playing sometime lesbian Sonia Jackson, will return to Albert Square in the New Year, together with the rest of the Jackson clan.
Also returning to the soap are Dean Gaffney, as brother Robbie, and Lindsey Coulson as mother Carol. It's thought a new actor will play Sonia's teenage half-brother Billy, originally played by Devon Anderson. Bosses have made no mention of remaining Jackson family member Alan, played by Howard Antony.
"To be invited back to EastEnders is such an honour and I am very, very excited that Sonia is coming back," Natalie declared. "For me, to be reunited with the original Jacksons is a dream come true and I think it will be a fantastic storyline."
In January, soap fans will see Carol return to Walford to be with her estranged daughter Bianca, played by Patsy Palmer. Lindsey's character left the show more than 10 years ago after exposing Bianca's affair with her then boyfriend Dan Sullivan. The 48-year-old has been asked to return before, but has always refused but, with the 25th anniversary of the soap approaching, she finally relented.
A BBC source told Digital Spy: "Everything's being kept hush-hush about the Jacksons' return at the moment but everyone's so pleased to have them back." If only they could resuscitate dear, departed Wellard sob.
