Craig throws a few shapes with Camilla

He might carefully cultivate his image as an acid-spitting meanie, but Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood took some time off from the Dark Side yesterday to get jiggy with the Duchess of Cornwall for a good cause.

Craig and Camilla hit the floor at a London primary school to promote World Osteoporosis Day. The Australian choreographer, whose mother suffers from debilitating arthritis, is a patron of the National Osteoporosis Society, while the Duchess is the charity’s president.

Baffled mites at the school watched as Craig played a Latin track and enticed Her Royal Highness into an impromptu cha-cha-cha, instructing her along the way to inject “a little bit of hip action” into her moves.

Afterwards, the notoriously hard-to-please judge lavished praise on his royal partner. “Wow! I’d give her a 10. That was fantastic,” he gushed. “Considering she’s never had a lesson in her life she had a great natural rhythm. Her sense of timing was excellent and her foot work was spot on.”

Craig also commented on the feud that seems to be simmering between himself and Strictly contestants Jo Wood and Brendan Cole. When Craig compared Jo’s moves to those of “a bush kangaroo” on Saturday’s show, Brendan – the laughably self-styled “bad boy of ballroom” – took exception and pranced off the set. Even Bruce Forsyth felt Craig had overstepped the mark and been too personal.

However, Craig characteristically defended himself. “Brendan was being utterly ridiculous,” he spat, “and Brucie wasn’t much better. I was actually going to say something nice about her afterwards but they stormed off in a huff before I could.”
