Osbournes for the Brits
Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne have been picked to host next year’s Brit Awards. Gulp.
The famously foul-mouthed couple will do the honours on 20 February 2008 at London’s Earls Court. ITV1 will broadcast the event live – but with a five-second delay so that they can bleep out the inevitable bad language.
The Osbournes will fill Russell Brand’s shoes, who did the honours this year. It was the first time the Brits had been shown live since the 1989 Sam Fox and Mick Fleetwood disaster. Russell’s turn prompted 500 complaints from viewers about four-letter words and lewd jokes by performers before the 9pm watershed.
“Ozzy and I have been asked to host many awards shows in the past but this is by far the most prestigious and meaningful, especially for Ozzy as it’s about the music,” says Sharon. “We are proud to be Brits and are both incredibly honoured to have been asked to help celebrate the best in music.”
Brits committee chairman Ged Doherty added: “Rock & roll, glamour, humour and a touch of the unexpected – Sharon and Ozzy will bring all this to the Brits and more. I can’t wait.”
The Brit Awards nominations are announced on 14 January 2008.
