Peter Davison and David Tennant

Doctor Who times two

David Tennant comes face to face with his former self in a special instalment of Doctor Who.

The 10th Time Lord meets the fifth, played by Peter Davison, next week in a story called ‘Time Crash’, filmed for Children in Need. Written by Stephen “Press Gang” Moffat, the scene will no doubt see the two doctors team up to fight some evil aliens.

“David and I very much got on,” said Davison. “I only found out afterwards that he was a fan of my Doctor, because he sent me a very nice text saying that he was at first a bit tongue-tied.”

“It was enormous fun working with him, because I go quite fast when I’m acting – it’s quite energetic, and he is as well. So together we were whizzing around the console at the speed of light – it was really quite exciting.”

Davison dons his signature beige suit for the one-off return to his former role, although he admits: “I could still get into the coat: I just couldn’t do it up.”

Other Children in Need highlights, due to air on Friday 16 November on BBC1, include the Spice Girls and Kylie Minogue performing  live, Lee Mead and the cast of Joseph opening the show and Prunella Scales reprising her formidable Fawlty Towers character, Sybil Fawlty. There’s no sign of Basil though, alas.
