Sir Alan tired of saying 'you're fired!'

As a gaggle of would-be businessmen and women get ready to face Sir Alan Sugar’s wrath in the new series of The Apprentice, the big man himself has been talking about the show’s famous “You’re fired!” catchphrase – and has revealed he actually isn’t that keen on it.

“I’m contractually obliged to say ‘you’re fired’,” admitted the former car aerial salesman. “Personally I would have liked the flexibility to be able to vary it – maybe to say ‘you’re sacked’ or ‘get out’. Or possibly even ‘clear off’.”

It would be a nice novelty, but sadly BBC bigwigs won’t be letting it happen. He added: “They tell me ‘you’re fired’ is great TV.”

Thankfully, Sir Alan is less cantankerous when it comes to the forthcoming series opener – the “best ever”, he says – which airs on Wednesday and sees the teams travelling to Morocco in an attempt to pick up ten bargains.

“Because of the way and where it’s done, you would not say ‘I’ve seen all this before.’” Well, not until you get to the boardroom firing, that is…
