Johnny Briggs

Back from the dead?
Corrie legend Johnny Briggs has made a cheeky attempt to return to Weatherfield – from beyond the grave. The actor, whose alter ego, gusset king Mike Baldwin, died of a heart attack in 2006, was enjoying a pint in his local pub when the soap's crew arrived to shoot a girl gang fight scene. He asked if he could appear in the background for a joke, but spoilsport soap bosses politely asked him to make himself scarce.

A Street source told The Sun: "They were filming in Johnny’s local and everyone was stunned to see him. But they said there was no way he could be in shot as they would get in trouble, so he went home with a takeaway." The 72-year-old star has a penthouse near the Lime Bar in Manchester’s fashionable Salford Quays. The source added: "Johnny’s always had a sense of humour – but we couldn’t raise Baldwin from the grave."

As we revealed last week, viewers will see drunken girl thugs brutally attack undercover policewoman Mel Morton and Abi Sharpe in the shocking Corrie storyline. One girl is shown stamping on Abi's head as she lies unconscious on the floor. The harrowing scenes will be aired in September.
