Brace yourselves, soap fans – EastEnders chiefs are preparing to air one of the most shocking storylines ever seen on the soap (we know we’ve said that before, but this time we really mean it!), as the Branning brothers go head to head in an horrific gun battle. The violent scenes – which culminate in a bloody shootout between Max and Jack – will end with one of the siblings badly wounded.
The drama unfolds as Max – surely the doziest love cheat since Darren Day – descends into an alcohol-fuelled depression in the wake of Jack's relationship with his wife Tanya. And when he discovers that Jack is growing ever closer to his children, he plots his brutal revenge.
An Albert Square mole told The Sun: "Max has recently realised Jack is taking his brotherly duties just one step too far. He starts acting like the golden boy, cosying up to his kids and Max is unable to accept it. In his stressed-out state he gets his hands on a weapon. A round is fired and one ends up fighting for his life."
The show's producers are remaining tight-lipped about who pulls the trigger – and whose life will be left hanging in the balance – but you can find out for yourself in the autumn when the gritty scenes are aired. No doubt Ofcom will be ready and waiting…
