MP dumps his fiancée for a Cheeky Girl
He’s quite a one, that Lembik Opik MP. Not content with a) having a very, erm, memorable name and b) going against the boring political grain and dating a glamorous weather girl, he’s gone and outdone even himself.
Yes, the 41-year-old Liberal Democrat has caused shockwaves by dumping his aforementioned weather girl – TV’s Sian Lloyd – for a Cheeky Girl. Gabriela Cheeky Girl to be precise. The unlikely pair met at a party thrown for five’s All-Star Talent Show in October – and according to the Romanian pop star (well, there aren’t many of them), they met up for drinks over the ensuing weeks until Lembit called time on his engagement to Sian.
In a statement which rather unfortunately describes his former fiancée like an ex-employee, Lembit says: “I continue to regard Sian as one of the brightest, most outgoing, hard-working and generous people I’ve had the privilege to know.” But not surprisingly, Sian has been rather less restrained, telling the Mail On Sunday that she found out about Lembit’s new love from a mutual friend, and that “his affair is like something out of a pantomime” (oh no it isn’t, Sian! Ahem. Sorry).
“Lembit was the great love of my life - I would never have agreed to marry him otherwise. But evidently he just isn't capable of an adult relationship,” says Sian. “He's fond of soundbites and celebrity. I feel more sorrow than anger towards him.” In a particularly, erm, cheeky dig at his new romance, the Welsh TV presenter adds: “Are they attractive, these Cheeky Sisters or Cheeky Girls or whatever they are? They're not really a part of my culture. I don't do the sort of things they'll do - turning up for the opening of an envelope. But maybe Lembit really gets off on that.” Ooh, you tell him, Sian!
