Natalie Cassidy gets a weight off her mind
|
We all loved Natalie Cassidy during her 14 years as gobby Sonia Jackson/Fowler in EastEnders. Who could forget her slating the maternal skills of Pauline Fowler (the late Wendy Richard)? “You couldn’t bring up phlegm!” Anyway, Natalie herself is being outspoken now, revealing the true cost of her weight battle in a candid interview with Heat magazine.
Natalie’s up-and-down weight has been a big story since she shed four stone in 2007 and launched her Then & Now Workout DVD. However, she has now revealed that getting to size eight almost ruined her life, and that she’s happy to have got back to a more comfortable shape.
Natalie says she was approached to do the DVD after she left Albert Square, and was pleased with the results. But afterwards, without the support of a trainer, she became unhealthily obsessed with her appearance. “I really wasn’t well,” she admits. “I was bordering on having an eating disorder.”
Things got even worse when Nat made a documentary about diets, and tried them all so she could lose more weight. She reveals she ended up taking extreme measures to keep the weight off: “There were nights when I’d go out for dinner and then I’d go home and take laxatives because I didn’t want the food inside me.”
Not drinking or going out for meals had a terrible effect on Natalie’s social life, and made her unhappy. However, she says she feels much happier now she’s back to a size 14. Although she’d like to lose some weight again, Nat plans to do it in a more controlled and healthy way.
“I’m not giving myself a target this time,” she concludes. “I just want to be normal, and if that means me staying this size, then I’ll stay this size. I’m proud of my body and I want other girls to feel the same.”
Come back to the Square, Natalie. Walford needs you!
