Is Jude above the Law?

Jude Law usually cuts a relatively friendly figure as he poses happily with legions of female admirers after another barnstorming performance of Hamlet, but the 36-year-old star looks to be in a whole heap of trouble after unexpectedly losing his cool with a female photographer late on Wednesday night.

The follicly-challenged heartthrob stands accused of slapping paparazzo Harsha Gopal as he left the trendy West End nightclub Automat. “It was deliberate, you could see it in his face,” sobbed a clearly-distressed Harsha. “I still can’t believe Jude Law actually hit me.”

“It’s still sore and stinging today,” continued the 28-year-old snapper. “Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want to moan and sound like a drama queen. I’m not happy about being splashed across the papers and I’m not milking this.”

However, the Alfie actor’s “people” are at pains to point out it’s all a just a big misunderstanding, with Jude’s lawyer insisting his client had no intention whatsoever of lashing out at Harsha.

“This is all nonsense,” boomed legal man Graham Shear. “Last night’s incident was just an accident. Jude was blinded by the camera flashes when he left the restaurant, raised his hand to shield himself, and inadvertently struck someone standing very close. He apologised and left. Pictures of this sort can often be very misleading.”

But Harsha slams Jude’s suggestion, insisting she was struck after the photos had been taken, so he couldn’t have been blinded by the flash. She’s now seeking advice about whether to lodge an assault allegation against the actor with Scotland Yard.

It could be that Harsha won’t be the only person on the receiving end of the long arm of the law.
