Britney panned for X Factor appearance
|
The prospect of Britney Spears belting her way through her new single on The X Factor at the weekend was probably the most eagerly anticipated TV event of the year, so its perhaps not surprising that the whole thing turned out to be a bit of an anticlimax.
Britney has been slammed in many quarters for her failure to sing live, preferring instead to mime unconvincingly along to Womanizer while marching up and down the stage in a fairly uninspiring dance routine. The public reaction seems to be one of universal disappointment save for diminutive panellist Louis Walsh perhaps, who clearly enjoyed Britneys brief sojourn to the judges table to shake her booty during the song.
La Spears has also come under fire for her diva-like behaviour during her brief trip to the capital. The star apparently banned any of the judges from entering her dressing room, leaving Simon Cowell and co to huddle uncomfortably in a TV studio corridor for a photo opportunity.
She also refused to act as a mentor to the contestants like previous special guests on the show have done managing in the process to out-diva Mariah Carey, who was more than happy to put in a few hours work. The star also insisted on rehearsing for the show behind closed doors, and failed to leave her dressing room to watch any of the wannabes perform on the show.
Still, its not all doom and gloom. As anyone who witnessed Diana Vickers warble her way through REM's 'Everybody Hurts' can attest, Britney had a lucky escape.
