Madonna hires Macca's lawyer

Could it really be true? If reports are to be believed, Madonna and Guy Ritchie's marriage is over with a capital "O", after the singer told her husband she wants a divorce.

Word is the couple want to keep things amicable (mind you, they all say that at first, don't they?). "Guy is a decent bloke, full stop," says a friend. "It's not his style to start profiteering from such sorry circumstances. He's got too much respect for his wife and children."

But those who are hoping to see a big court showdown might still be in with a chance, because Madge – who has a £300m fortune – has reportedly hired Fiona Shackleton, the lawyer who represented Paul McCartney in his divorce battle against Heather Mills. Guy is thought to have been in talks with Mayfair law firm Forsters.

According to the Daily Mirror, Madonna told Guy she wanted to end the marriage after the couple admitted they' had fallen out of love. "They were both very calm," says a second chatty friend. "Madonna told Guy: 'I'm sorry, I want a divorce'. And he agreed. It was quite painless, but very sad."

The film director has retreated to his country mansion in Wiltshire and is understandably feeling a little low, poor thing. "He's a bit down in the dumps, and who can blame him?" says yet another loose-tongued friend. "He's off to the country to get a bit of peace and quiet." Madonna, meanwhile, is in New York with the kids.

It's all so depressing!
