Kiefer starts his sentence

Kiefer Sutherland

It’s going to be a grim Christmas for Kiefer Sutherland, who starts his prison sentence today. The actor, best known for playing 24’s Jack Bauer, is being jailed for 48 days after being arrested for drink driving by Californian police in September.

Kiefer will do his time in Glendale City Jail – which is lucky for him, as the other option, the Twin Towers county jail, is reportedly a hotbed of violence. If sent there, the star would have had to be placed in “the hole”, where he’d spend 23 hours of the day alone.

"Mr Sutherland is very polite and humble. He was very cooperative during the booking process," said John Balian, the jail’s spokesman officer. "He will be issued an orange jumpsuit, and will be housed alone in a cell, since he'll be a long-term inmate."

Doesn’t sound like much fun. Even worse, mince pies and Christmas presents aren’t the only things Mr Sutherland will be denied – he’ll also be in the slammer for his birthday, 21 December AND during the New Year celebrations. Kiefer, it sucks to be you right now.
