Britney’s traumatic childhood

Britney Spears

Britney Spears seems to have got her life well and truly back on track. Her Circus tour rolled into London last night, and a crowd-pleasing performance suggests the popstrel has finally ditched her wild ways and conquered her demons.

In a shocking new book, Britney’s Uncle Willy, brother of dad Jamie, has shed some light on the starlet’s turbulent upbringing in today’s Daily Mirror, painting a picture of a traumatic childhood which may provide the reasons for some of Britney’s darkest hours.

“One time Jamie was drunk and tried to drive off with Britney in the car. She was no more than five years old,” he explained. “I tried to stop him, so I reached into the truck to grab the keys from the ignition and he punched me. We got right into it there by the car, fighting in front of her.

“Britney was jumping up and down, crying. Lynne [Britney’s mum] had to run out to get her inside. We Spears men are known for fighting. If Britney happened to be there, so be it.

“Another time I was at the house and Jamie walked in drunk and called Lynne a bad name. She was in the kitchen drinking water and he grabbed the glass, walked into the lounge and just hurled it. It was rough, but the sad thing is that it became normal life.”

Luckily for us, Brit-Brit’s troubled childhood fuelled her dream to be a performer, if only to get her away from the family home in Kentwood, Louisiana for a bit of peace and quiet. Of course, she went on to make a whopping great pile of cash by the time she was just 18 – but away from the limelight, the pop princess was already heading for a fall.

You can read the revelations – and countless others – in Britney: Inside The Dream, penned by Steve Dennis and released this week.
