Gwyneth pens a cookbook

Gwyneth Paltrow

She may have been panned for her worthy lifestyle website GOOP, but it seems there’s no stopping Hollywood siren Gwyneth Paltrow’s desire to become a fully-fledged domestic goddess. Now the Iron Man star is launching an audacious bid to oust the likes of Delia Smith and Nigella Lawson from the top of the bestsellers list - by writing a cookery book.

Oh, and if the thought of rustling up one of Gwynnie’s macrobiotic feasts for the family doesn’t exactly get your juices flowing, don’t fret. The book, entitled My Father's Daughter, ditches the brown rice and goji berries in favour of hearty, more traditional fare. In case you didn’t hear, the actress abandoned her kooky diet when she was pregnant with Apple a few years back, telling a reporter at the time: "I couldn't look at brown rice. It made me throw up.”

La Paltrow’s tome is apparently all about "the importance of togetherness at mealtime, emphasising that cooking for your family is the ultimate expression of love". It’s dedicated to the memory of her dad Bruce, who died of throat cancer in 2002. “My dad was a famous pancake maker and I’m working on [adapting his] recipe right now,” said Gwyn, before adding: “I’m making mine slightly healthier.”

It’s not the first time Gwyneth has worked with food. Last year she filmed On the Road Again with US chef Mario Batali, a TV series which saw the pair take a culinary tour of Spain. "Gwyneth is cool," gushed Mario. "She's got a spiritual component that isn't too hokey. She's sexy, she's funny. And she loves food. She really understands it."

The book is set to hit the shelves in autumn 2010.
