Tuesday 31 July: Pete's public plea to Kate
OK, we have to admit: we're confused. Yesterday, we heard that Pete Doherty had finished his five-day rehab programme and gone back to his ex-girlfriend Nadine Ruddy. And today? Pete is plastered (if you'll excuse the turn of phrase) all over the Daily Mirror, begging Kate Moss to take him back and saying he loves her with all his heart. Oh, and he's also proposed to a stunning Parisian artist called Christine - but, hey, we all do silly things on the spur of the moment, don't we?
Right, so let's try to unravel this sorry saga, shall we? Kate is still staying with Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood in Surrey, and has been indulging in slightly uncharacteristic paparazzi-friendly antics such as driving to the local pub in a Roll's-Royce. Meanwhile, Pete spent yesterday holed up in a north London hotel, pouring his heart out to the nice man from the Daily Mirror about how the only way to get through to his on-off lover is via her "favourite" newspaper. Desperate times call for desperate measures, after all...
Except... Pete also says that Kate called him the other night and sang "Moon River" into his answerphone (as you do). So we can't help thinking it might have been simpler to pick up the phone or call her back later, rather than speak to her through the tabloids. "I can't properly describe my feelings for Kate - they're too strong," Pete insists. "She's ripped my heart out. I don't know what I'm doing."
Talking of which, if Kate does consider taking Pete back, she may have a few questions about his new "fiancée" first. "I made rather a rash gesture," Pete confesses. "It was more in a fit of anger. I asked this bird to marry me. She's gone back to Paris and I don't know what to do." Well, maybe she reads the Daily Mirror, too, Pete? That way, she'll find out the truth - and you won't have to do anything...
