Britney stuck with toxic lawyers’ bill

Pop princess Britney Spears might be cracking the whip on her world tour, but it seems the real circus is taking place back home. Papers filed at an LA court have shown that she’s spent around £2m on lawyers since her father took control of her affairs last year.
The Britster seemed to be at her lowest ebb 14 months ago, when a judge decided she was unfit to manage her multi-gazillion-dollar business interests and her dad, Jamie Spears, should take charge. The decision came after a very public run of erratic behaviour and a stay in a mental health evaluation unit.
Since then, thankfully, it’s been up and up for the pop princess. She was a triple winner at the MTV Video Music Awards last September, and her new album Circus sold more than 500,000 copies in its first week of release in November. Meanwhile, apart from few gripes about miming and that microphone/wardrobe malfunction in Tampa, her world tour is getting rave reviews.
However, the fact that Jamie has hired at least 17 different lawyers or legal firms to represent Britney is prompting concerns that the various legal eagles are bleeding her finances dry. Six different lawyers reportedly represented her at a recent hearing, prompting confusion among opposition attorneys and court officials.
Among the expenses are $460,000 for divorcing ex-hubby Kevin Federline, $26,000 for her prosecution for driving without a licence, and $113,000 to fend off a case brought in Florida by a former manager.
