The Beverly Hills Diet

Based on a book called The New Beverly Hills Diet by Judy Mazel, this is a 35-day plan that tells you exactly what you should eat at each meal without the need to calorie count or calculate fat content. For 10 days you eat just fruit, then on the 11th day you add butter and carbohydrates. Finally, on day 19, you add protein to your eating plan. The claim is that you'll lose 10-15lb in 35 days.

How does it work?
The plan claims that if you eat carbohydrates and protein together, you won't digest your food properly and it'll end up being stored as body fat. This plan therefore suggests you eat fruit by itself and NEVER eat carbohydrates and protein together.

How long do you do it for?
- The complete plan lasts for 35 days but it can be repeated if needed.

Advantages
- Weight loss will occur as it is so low in calories

- The plan only lasts for 35 days

Disadvantages
- This eating plan isn't nutritionally balanced

- Eating just fruit for 10 days is very hard-going and you are likely to feel hungry and unsatisfied

- Not eating any protein for 19 days could be detrimental to health. Your body needs essential amino acids (in protein) every day for growth and repair of body tissues

- Foods that are high in protein are often a rich source of some vitamins and minerals such as vitamin A, iron and zinc, and a poor intake of these nutrients for 19 days could lead to mild deficiencies

- There is no scientific basis for avoiding eating protein and carbohydrate together or eating fruit by itself
