The Mitsubishi Outlander is lean, mean and green - why? Read on

It's 90 years since the launch of Mitsubishi's first car - the Model A in 1917 - coincidently an entirely hand-built seven-seater sedan, just like the Outlander.

Today Mitsubishi is embarking on its most ambitious automotive project ever with the new Outlander.

This classy sports utility vehicle (SUV), contrary to popular belief, doesn't ride roughshod over the environment - many might be surprised to know that Outlander has a smaller footprint than the Ford Mondeo, VW Passat and even the BMW 5 Series.

Green and clever

The Outlander has the lowest emissions of any seven-seat SUV - one of the greenest vehicles on the road with a 'per passenger' CO2 figure of 26g/km, and fuel consumption of over 40mpg.

In its five or seven-seater guise the Outlander is as practical, versatile, clever and capacious as if you'd conjured it from your very own wish list!

Seats split, tumble, slide, recline and hide themselves away in optimum fashion at the touch of a button; they're easy to get into and provide a panoramic view. The cargo space is enormous - enough to swallow a couple of mountain bikes whole - and easy to load via a split tailgate.

Outlander owners won't have to follow any complicated routines to fold down the seats. By holding down a small button hidden in the side of the boot for three seconds, the second row seats electrically flip forward to create a flat load bay for accommodating larger objects.

Striking design and cutting edge technology

Key design highlights are its bold 'Mount Fuji' grille flanked by a set of piercing headlamps.

The Outlander's rally-inspired AWC (all wheel control) four-wheel drivetrain has been designed with enhanced on-road stability and safety in mind, as sell as allowing the Outlander to tackle all roads in adverse weather, and undertake towing duties.

Throw in a three-year unlimited mileage warranty, three-year pan-European breakdown and recovery service, 12-year anti corrosion perforation warranty, and you've got a world-class unbeatable package from Mitsubishi.
