Dodge Challenger gets charged up
The third generation of the legendary Dodge Challenger is already one of the leading muscle cars on the market, so you're a brave man if you decide to tinker with its all-American perfection. But that didn't deter Michigan-based tuner HPP from seeing if it could go one better than the original version and we believe it has succeeded in its quest. The 2009 Dodge Charger Daytona's not just an incredibly hot muscle car it's the Arnold Schwarzenegger of the motoring world!
Major alterations have been made to the exterior, with HPP paying homage to the 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona (hence the moniker) by giving the HPP Dodge similar bodywork to this legendary muscle car classic.
The most dramatic transformation has occurred at the front end, with HPP introducing a tapered nose cone that bears a close resemblance the original motor's. The front bumper and grille have also been altered, while the lights are now hidden behind matt black flaps. There are also some rather tacky imitation air vents on the side doors, but because the rest of the car is so outstanding, we'll forgive HPP for this oversight.
Dodge aficionados will be pleased to hear that the 5.7-litre HEMI V8 (which is a darn site better than 1969's 440 CID Magnum engine) that features in the basic model has been left alone, though we wouldn't have complained if it had been modified to enhance the power output a teeny bit.
Last but not least, the 2009 Daytona features the same humongous single-deck rear wing that appeared on the original a spoiler so big that not one but two Olympic gymnasts could practice their bar routine on it. Not that we have to say this after waxing lyrical for the past few passages, but this really is an amazing car that makes us glad to be working in this industry.
