Edward Cullen's car is a Volvo XC60
Robert Pattinson and his Volvo XC60

Swedish marque Volvo, one of the world's most boring car manufacturers, has actually gone and done something very exciting by hooking up with the new Twilight movie New Moon – providing the Volvo XC60 driven by lead character, Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson).

You can see the rather dashing RPattz and the not so handsome XC60 in the picture above – though we're not entirely sure why a vampire would need a car seeing as they can only come out at night and have the ability to outpace a Bugatti Veyron. Maybe driving’s less tiring…

Though we're a touch cynical about product placement in movies (would a character as cool as Edward really choose a Volvo?), it's not the first time a movie franchise has created a relationship with a famous marque, the James Bond series’ affiliation with Aston Martin being the most famous example.

More recently, General Motors has been able to show off its latest cars in the Transformer movie franchise, with the Chevy Volt, Chevy Camaro and Stingray concept all making onscreen appearances in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

To celebrate Volvo's unlikely relationship with the New Moon movie, we've picked out some of the most famous ever movie motors to grace a screen.
